Recommendation: ‘Global Trends Shaping Humankind’

This is a great conversation with Prof. Daniel Kahneman and Prof. Yuval Noah Harari about Global Trends Shaping Humankind moderated by Kara Swisher as a part of the 2021 Nexus Online Summit, organized by the American Friends of The Hebrew University.

Harari: “This is the first time in history the deep structure of human beings is likely to start changing. <…> When I look a hundred or two hundred years into the future, I think for the first time it’s very likely that not just our technology and economics and politics will change but humanity itself. The bodies, the brains, the deep mental structures of people are now open to greater and greater manipulation.”

“Now we are in the race who hacks the mind”

“What we are seeing now is the crisis of the imagination that most of the stories even if science-fiction plots are focused on the wrong thing. You have so many movies about robots rebelling to kill us. Very few movies are about robots who manage the financial system in a way that we don’t understand”

Kahneman: “wherever there is any human judgment, there is noise and more of it than you think” <…> the advantage of an algorithm is that it is noise-free”
